FATALITY MARKER ON HWY 287
EARTHQUAKE LAKE VISITOR CENTER DRIVE
As a result of the American Legion's efforts to get the Fatality Marker Program into the Public eye, there have been over 200 new requests for Markers we've never gotten accomplished made.
Even grew membership between 10 and 15 folks. In this case, Jim Kelly, Statewide Coordinator came to me with a family request on 5 August to move in the chain of command to get Ennis Post #65 to erect a marker from a motorcycle accident from August of 2004 at MM 3.2 on Hwy 287 at Earthquake Visitors Center Drive.
In August, I contacted Adjutant Howard Goltz via e-mail and he said that he would see that Lee Sergeant got it for action. In September, I asked what the progress was and queried if they needed crosses or posts.
Response was that they had material, but that I'd need to contact Lee Sergeant direct.
In October.... Post #14 took action and got it done. I informed Howard Goltz via e-mail and infoed Post #65 e-mail on file that the Fatality Marker was now in place and reported back to Jim Kelly at HQ that it was done as well.
This was a bugger to get driven into the rock-slide, but Sean Eckert our member and active duty Marine reported he "liked a challenge".
