2021 Veteran of the Year

Bozeman Elks Lodge #463 has named Joe Schumacher the "2021 Veteran of the Year ".

Schumacher serves as the Director of Veteran Services at Montana State University. Each year the Veteran Support Center works with over 600 veteran students to help them achieve their academic goals. Veteran Support Center is available to all veterans of the U.S. military, eligible dependents and members of the Selected Reserve who receive Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) education benefits.

Schumacher served in the Army, including deployment as a tank gunner in Iraq, battling in Diwaniyah.

While earning a degree in Political Science, Schumacher worked for MSU’s Voice Center. He spoke to hundreds of students about preventing sexual assault and domestic abuse.

Schumacher is a member of American Legion Post #14 in Bozeman, Montana.
